Understanding pH in hydroponic growing

pH controls how well your plants can absorb nutrients from water. Even with a perfectly mixed nutrient solution, a pH that's too high or too low locks those nutrients out of reach of the roots.

Most leafy greens and herbs thrive between 5.5 and 6.5. Outside that range, specific nutrients, iron and manganese especially, become unavailable, showing up as pale or yellowing new growth even though your reservoir looks fine.

Test daily for your first two weeks with any new setup, then move to every 2–3 days once you understand how your specific water source and nutrient mix behave together.

Adjust gradually. A small dose of pH Up or pH Down, followed by a 30-minute wait before retesting, prevents overcorrection, swinging from too acidic to too alkaline stresses roots more than sitting slightly off target.

The IoT Smart Controller tracks this automatically and will flag drift before it affects your plants, but understanding the mechanism helps you diagnose problems faster when something looks off.
